Speed fundraiser show recap

I really can’t express how incredible the Speed + Magnitude Fundraiser show on the 12th of July was. And I realise I never posted it here (I’ve been behind, I’m sorry). Speed, Magnitude, Stressed, Bolt Cutter, Twist of Fate, and Theurgy at a community hall to raise funds for Olive Kids and Black Dog Institute.

Firstly, we raised $6,564 in total. We split that between Olive Kids and Black Dog Institute.

Two charities doing incredible work. That is awesome enough as is and I’m so grateful to Hardeep for leading the organising of this show, for everyone that played, brought gear, helped out, ran the door, and everyone that bought tickets. This shit does not happen without our community.

Now let’s talk about the vibes… We knew it would be good, but the room was electric from start to finish. Every band had amazing sets - played great, had awesome crowd response (from the usual punters and more!). But there was something NEXT LEVEL special about the Magnitude set. Maybe it was just for me and my straight edge friends… seeing a band that clearly means a lot to us in a community space. I can’t comment for anyone else but I know that I needed to hear those songs at that time. I have never experienced a set like that though. Moshing hard, singing to every song, holding my friends and singing and crying all together. The most genuine “you had to be there” moment. I will never for get that.

And then finally, Speed closing it out with a generational set. Even though the response was insane, people packed up the front, people singing along from every corner of the room, we still had room to mosh properly… The last time I moshed for Speed was in 2022 at Jive but that day the space and the vibes just felt right. As usual, the set was awesome. They just have such incredible stage presence and I think I get misty—eyed every time Jem gives a speech. Just an incredible frontman.

I clearly have a lot of feelings about this show. It was special. I love my friends. I love hardcore.
